In this edition, we sit down with Kevin Carroll, Senior Project Manager at TCP Homecare, to learn more about his role, what a typical day looks like, and what he enjoys most about working at PHX Ireland.
1. How would you summarise your role in the business?
I am senior project manager in TCP Homecare. Largely speaking I am program manager for our primary systems, this suite sits across various functions which requires a lot interaction between the different departments. My role is to support and advance these systems, supporting process, from an optimization and security perspective as well as liaise on IT projects that impact the TCP business unit.
2. Before coming to work, what does your morning look like?
See my daughter off to school in the morning and a make coffee. That’s about as much as I can manage. I am not a person who is ‘one’ with the morning.
3. When you arrive to work, how do you kickstart your day?
We have a projects meeting every morning to regroup and establish what our focus is. What is reactive and proactive.
4. On your journey home, do you listen to podcasts, music or are you enjoying some peace and quiet? If so, which podcast/song?
I do enjoy TV/movie trivia podcasts like ‘smartless’. Great way to disengage from serious stuff.
5. What’s your favourite aspect of your job?
I enjoy working on problems where you need to understand enough about a process, system and team to be able to resolve a problem. I feel its like undoing a knot.
6. What is one thing you wish you could have told your younger self before embarking on your chosen career path?
Find something that challenges you in the right way.
7. Can you share one piece of advice for a new starter about to join the business?
I would acknowledge that TCP is a complicated business with a lot of different services and ask if you don’t know. Our staff are always willing to answer and support.
8. What does being collaborative mean to you, and how do you live that value at work?
There is no point in creating a solution, or a solving a problem if the end user is not going to use it. For me it is important to have multiple stakeholders speaking up and engaging. Negative feedback is still engaged feedback, and its better to know than ignore.
9. How do you keep our innovative spirit alive in your day-to-day role?
I believe you need to listen to what problems businesses in general. Thinking on other problems is a great way of helping you think outside the box, and often you are brought back to a solution that may fix another problem you have. This can be the news, conferences, or broad company meetings. If this is a common problem there is often a common solution
At PHX Ireland, our people make the difference. Whether it’s supporting our teams, driving innovation, or making an impact in their roles, every teammate plays a vital part in our success.
