A day in the life: Senior HR Business Partner Louise Sullivan

At PHX Ireland, our people are at the heart of everything we do. In this series, we take you behind the scenes to showcase the diverse roles and talented individuals who help drive our success every day. From HR to operations, logistics to finance, discover what it’s like to be part of our team.

In this edition, we sit down with Louise Sullivan, Senior HR Business Partner, to learn more about her role, what a typical day looks like, and what she enjoys most about working at PHX Ireland.

1. How would you summarise your role in the business?

As an HR Business Partner (HRBP) in Ireland for the PHX Central Office teams and United Drug, I work across all areas of HR, supporting our teams in everything from talent development and employee engagement to strategic HR initiatives. My role is all about enabling people to thrive in their careers while aligning HR strategies with business objectives.

2. Before coming to work, what does your morning look like?

My mornings start with a walk with my puppy, Minnie – she’s full of energy and always makes sure I start my day on a positive note!

3. When you arrive at work, how do you kickstart your day?

A coffee is a must! Then I spend some time catching up with various business leaders and the HR team to align on priorities and get ahead of the day.

4. On your journey home, do you listen to podcasts, music, or enjoy some peace and quiet?

In the morning, I usually have the radio on to stay updated on the news and current events. In the evening, I switch to a podcast—anything from true crime to fashion, depending on my mood!

5. What’s your favourite aspect of your job?

I love meeting so many different people and getting to know different teams across the business.

6. What is one thing you wish you could have told your younger self before embarking on your chosen career path?

No two days will ever be the same! Every day brings new challenges and opportunities, which keeps things exciting and dynamic.

7. Can you share one piece of advice for a new starter about to join the business?

Take your time to get to know your team and the different business areas. Building relationships early on will help you navigate the company and feel more connected.

8. What does being collaborative mean to you, and how do you live that value at work?

For me, collaboration is about teamwork, open communication, and valuing diverse perspectives. In my role I get to partner with leaders, teams, and departments to align HR strategies with business needs. By fostering trust, listening actively, and encouraging cross-functional teamwork, I can help create a supportive and inclusive workplace.

9. Inclusivity matters to us. What’s a small thing you do to help make the workplace welcoming for everyone?

Inclusivity starts with getting to know people, not just their roles, but their journeys and experiences. Spending time with colleagues and understanding what drives them helps create a workplace where everyone feels valued and welcome.

At PHX Ireland, our people make the difference. Whether it’s supporting our teams, driving innovation, or making an impact in their roles, every teammate plays a vital part in our success.
